Activating a Replacement Card Late [brick and mortar store] [brick and mortar]

I received a replacement BOA card (expired for my BOA card) for over a year ago that I have not checked. I set it aside and forgot about it because I did not want to use it. It was used for some shopping on the Internet and although they went through fine. The account is still open and in good standing. Do you think if I used store the card in a brick and mortar, it would not go because it was not activated by the magnetic stripe tried? I'm worried that the activation is so late now might cause more harm than good (such as excessive control of my account what is possible AA or CLD).
What you think? Thanks

Reply: It should show if you have BOA online banking. Balance etc. Go to a gas station and use it. Like I said I will be surprised if it doesn't work.
Yea I hear ya. I didn't know if you meant in your previous posts that there was a specific indicator on the online banking screen that shows you whether the physical credit card (i.e. magnetic strip) is officially activated or not. I have online banking and a balance and I don't see any such indicator, which is what I suspected.

Reply: I had a card that I put in a drawer and forgot about. It was a BOA PLat visa, sat there for 9 months and I called and activated it. No problems. If you are on online banking it should show the status of the card. My first guess is if you used it once its activated but I might be wrong.
It's been used for internet purchases, but I thought the activation process is what actually activates the magnetic strip on the physical card in order to make it available for brick-and-mortar store purchases. Maybe I'm wrong on that? Where exactly does it show card status in the online banking system?

Reply: so why is the CL the arbitrary amount of $124? Is this just a JCP quirk or do other issuers do this?
It's a GEMB thing for inactive accounts. They lower your CL to some awkward number usually ending in 4. This is most likely how their computer flags cards as inactive. I'm not aware of any other issuers that do this off the top of my head. I'm also pretty sure this is not a universal thing for all GEMB store cards–it probably differs between different store cards.

Reply:Thanks, I heard it's better to go in person. I'm going to try both but have higher hopes for JCP. No BK, just a couple of negatives from a few years ago.

Reply: These are very good questions, because I actually have two like this.
One is JC Penney, opened in 1999, and yes the CL is reduced and it is exactly $124! As far as I know, this is reporting open on all 3 CRAs.
The one I'm referring to in this thread is Victoria's Secret. It's reporting open on at least one CRA, closed on at least one CRA, and not sure about the third (I still don't have TransUnion hard copy yet). Date opened 3/2002, last activity 3/2002. I did find this card and it still has the sticker on it. I'm pretty sure I never even activated it at all.
Yeah that JCP is just dormant and can easily be brought back to life. I've heard of some people forgetting their JCP and finding out it survived BK and end up re-activating it later (assuming they did not include the card in the BK). As for Victoria's that is issued by WFNNB instead of GEMB (JCP) so I cannot be sure. In any event you're right to just go in and see what's up with it. I would hope they would reactivate it because they want your business

Reply: I have the same issue with a card from 2002!!! Lol. It is also reporting as open on some CRAs and closed on others.
But mine is a retail one so I was going to just go into the store and ask.
Does it report a reduced CL from your original? Is the CL an awkward number like $124? If so it may be that your account is just dormant and a phone call can reactivate it.
Btw what store is the card from?

Reply:I have no experience in this type of situation, but if you're worried you could always call in and say you have lost your card and need a new one.
If they comment about the current card not being activated just say you only use it for online purchases. Most lenders understand that people use different cards for different purchases.
